Some of the main design criteria for DIVAs that we are creating include:

  • portable
  • performance oriented
  • ease of use

The hardware involved in our first DIVA includes a Polhemus FastTrak, an Immersion Systems Cyberglove, and a custom made contact glove. From 2004 to 2007, under a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) artist-researcher grant Pritchard refactored the software into Max/MSP to take advantage of interactive performance modes and to allow values to be pulled out of the data flow at any point for use in other manners, such as video control or MIDI processing. This first system allowed the proof-of-concept needed to proceed to creating a DIVA for use in the more demanding needs of the Visual Voice project.
