June18, 2008 VVDIVA Group Meeting

Present: Meryn Cadell, Edgar Flores, Eric Foxall, Hélène Day Fraser, Ko Hachimura, Allison Lenters, Zoe McDougall, Bob Pritchard, Seiya Tsuruta, Marguerite Witvoet, Ying Yin, Seiya Tsuruta, Adriano Vilela

Status of Project Manager: There are about four people who have expressed interest in the position. Sid and Bob have not been able to coordinate a telephone interview since Sid has been away for the past two and a half weeks. On the other hand, things have been going very well with the project.

Paper accepted at the Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium 2008 in August: we hope to have new video demos for it, with Marguerite using the new setup

Helene has been continuing work on the harness/costume, as well as working with Eric Foxall on the hardware issues. She mentioned that we need to add a second sleeve to hold the cable guides for the right hand tracker. She will be doing a fitting with Marguerite later today to make adjustments to the current harness.

Zoe and documentation: Zoe is waiting for ethics clearance in order to do individual interviews. Researchers were reminded that they should ensure that their contact data is up to date on the Local page of the wiki.

Software updates: all lab software is now updated and complete. Once the new laptop arrives for Allison we will need to deauthorize her current computer software.

Hardware:

Eric Foxall: has completed the speaker amplifier and built backup units
	New laptop ordered for Allison
One cyberglove in need of repairs: awaiting return/shipping instructions from Immersion Corp.

Server backups: apparently the email instructions that Sid sent out weren’t quite correct. In the meantime we will continue to back up data on DVDs.

Meryn and Bob to begin work on new texts?

Two week trajectory:

Zoe up to speed on documentation
	Marguerite training
	Glottal waveforms
	Hemisphere reorientation
	Software documentation/commenting

+++++++++++++ Jaw model demo: Edgar gave a demo of the current mounted jaw model, explaining the communication systems and the motor controls. Demo’d the various speeds and orientations with which it can operate. Finished by having it chew on a Tim Bit!

DIVA: Allison and Ying explained the new learning, training and performance interfaces, demoing how a user would create new accents and then assemble a profile. Based on about ten minutes of work yesterday Marguerite was able to give a demonstration of how the new system works. Eric was able to show how Max/MSP can interface with Artisynth, and was able to show how glove data will affect facial changes.
