An FEM Model of the Masseter

Antonio Sanchez, Ian Stavness, Alan Hannam and Sidney Fels, University of British Columbia

This is a detailed FEM-based model of the masseter that was used to study the forces produced by that muscle during chewing. The video shows the various structures contained in the model, including muscle fibre directions fields and tendon sheets. It was shown that inclusion of these structures in the model had an noticeable effect on the force produced.
